In the Beginning
Day found her love of art early and was sure she would work in the field. After entering and excelling in art school she found children's books. “It was a whole new world.” She loved writing and developing characters and published her first book “Stefan and Olga” with Dial Publishing. “It was a dream come true.” Stefan and Olga was featured on Reading Rainbow with Levar Burton of PBS. After graduating Paier School of Applied Art, she apprenticed to Mercer Meyer and worked with Uri Shulivitz. “It was great fun working in children’s book field. Sometimes I would think the description of a character and it would remind me of of someone I knew. I would make the character of that person. putting friends and family into my work was my own little secret. It would make me smile.”
Life In The City
I really did not take fine art painting seriously until later in my 40’s after a series of losses which were devastating and then 9-11 happened and it took a long time to get myself together. I lived below 14th street and That experience changed my artwork for ever. I did a series of paintings that were featured in in a PBS Channel 21 in Manhattan. She was selected for the memorial exhibition “An intimate Anniversary show in New York City.
